Create my accountWhy calculate the cost of your brew?
Is brewing your own beer cheaper than buying it? The question always comes up. The answer is one calculation: the price of the ingredients, divided by the volume obtained.
The cost per litre lets you compare two recipes: a heavily hopped IPA easily costs three times as much as a simple blonde. The cost per bottle helps set a contribution for a party, or simply to know what your gift is worth.
How is the brew cost calculated?
The cost of each ingredient is its quantity multiplied by its unit price, in the same unit:
total = sum (quantity × unit price)
per litre = total / volume (L)
per bottle = total / number of bottles
The number of bottles is calculated for the size entered, with no losses. Enter the quantity and the price in the same unit: kilos with a price per kilo, grams with a price per gram.
